UID =Unique Identification of Items
UID Construction:
UID is a 2-D data matrix symbol who data can be scanned and translated into CAGE Code, Part Number, and Serial Number
Construct 1: Serial Number is Unique within the CAGE Code
Construct 2: Serial Number is not Unique within the Cage Code But, is Unique within the Part Number
The contractor (Supplier to the DoD) is required to transmit an Advance Shipping Notice (ASN) that includes: 2-D data matrix symbol information, UID Database Data, and all previously required (DD-250) information.
End Item Database Data:
System (End-Item) UID Database Data
-UID (Concatenated)
-Descriptive Date
-UID data elements (CAGE Code, Part #, Serial #) (associated data)
-Issuing Agency Code
-UID Type
-Item Description
-Unit of Measure
-Acquisition Data
-Contractor
-Contract Number
-CLIN/SLIN/ELIN
-Price
-Acceptance Code(Identifier acceptor)
-Acceptance Date
-Ship to Code
Sub-Assembly (Embedded Item) of End-Item
-UID (Concatenated)
Descriptive Data
-UID Elements
-Issuing Agency Code
-UID Type
-Item Description
-Unit of Measure
Parent UID (as of delivery date) (associated data-establishes hierarchical relationship)
-GFP(Government Furnished Property) Flag
Providing the required proof that the quality of the UID 2-D data matrix symbol has been produced in accordance with Mil SPEC 129 & Mil Spec 130-M will be discussed at length in forthcoming (see editorial calendar) UID Journal Feature Article: Validation, Verification and Grading:
UID-RFID Relationship
DoD DFARS policy requirement for Radio Frequency Identification Labels (RFID) to be place on packages/cases/pallets.
Items that have UID data elements with 2-D data matrix are required to be physically located, directly upon the item (by label or Direct Part Mark).
The UID Data on the items is required be associated with the RFID Label data:
On the Item Package
On the Case containing these item Packages
On the Pallet.
Benefits:
UID establishes a common key for data-sharing and communication between suppliers and customers.
UID increases efficiency and improved track of items by requiring serialization.
